As National Safety Month⚠️ continues, Richland County’s Office of Risk Management organized active-shooter🔫 workshops Monday and Tuesday featuring Richland County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Dominick Pagano.The workshops were held at the County Administration Building and the County’s Judicial Center, both in Columbia.According to The Gun Violence Archive, more than 650 mass shootings occurred in 2023.Active shooting is a problem anywhere and everywhere. PROGRESS CONTINUES🚧.Richland County has made significant strides⏩ in its efforts to redevelop part of the former Columbia Place Mall into office space for County and state government.When construction is complete, the mall's second floor will house the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and the County's voter registration office, while the first floor will contain the County’s 911 call center📞 and SC Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services. The end of an era.A retirement celebration to honor Robin Waites, former executive director of Historic Columbia, was held today at Robert Mills House & Gardens.Waites was presented with the Order of the Palmetto, the state’s highest civilian honor. Also announced: A new Robin Waites Community Engagement Center will serve as a multipurpose space for collaboration, education and community.Current and former local leaders spoke during the ceremony, including County Councilwoman Gretchen D. Barron (District 7). Richland County Councilman Paul Livingston (District 4) also was on hand to honor and celebrate Waites.Thank you for your two decades of service to our community👏🏽!
