๐Ÿ”น Why do we use Patient Activation Measure (PAM)? ๐Ÿ”นAt Surgery Hero, our mission is to enhance patient outcomes and recovery experiences by preparing individuals both physically and mentally for their surgeries. The Patient Activation Measure (PAM) is a robust tool designed to assess an individual's knowledge, skills, confidence, and willingness to manage their own health and healthcare. PAM was developed by Insignia Health and has undergone extensive validation to predict health outcomes. ๐Ÿ“ˆ ๐Ÿ“‰ PAM scores provide insights into a patientโ€™s level of engagement, which can range from being passive recipients of care to proactive managers of their own health. This measure helps healthcare providers tailor interventions to better support and empower patients, ultimately leading to improved health outcomes and more efficient care. ๐Ÿ™Œ One of the key tools in our arsenal is the Patient Activation Measure (PAM). But why is PAM so crucial to our approach?๐Ÿ” Why PAM?๐Ÿค Personalised Care: PAM helps us understand each patientโ€™s engagement and activation levels, allowing us to tailor our coaching to meet their unique needs.๐Ÿค” Predictive Insights: By assessing a patient's readiness to manage their health, PAM provides predictive insights into their likely recovery trajectory.๐Ÿ’ช Empowerment: Our goal is to empower patients to take charge of their health. PAM's insights guide us in fostering self-efficacy and confidence, crucial elements for successful surgical outcomes.Through PAM, Surgery Hero ensures that each patient receives the right support at the right time, leading to more effective prehabilitation and faster, smoother recoveries. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ #SurgeryHero #PatientOutcomes #HealthCoaching #SurgicalPrehabilitation #PatientActivationMeasure

A systematic review on sleep duration and food consumption published in ESPEN - European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism, has shown that having less sleep may promote weight gain. The study included 50 randomised controlled trials (RCTs) with 3387 participants, including 1079 children and adolescents and 2308 adults ๐Ÿ” Key Findings:๐Ÿ’ค The findings suggest that lack of sleep contributes to increases in calorie and fat intake, body weight, appetite, frequency of eating, and portion sizes.๐Ÿž 13 out of 30 of the included studies found that short sleep conditions led to higher energy intake.๐Ÿ“ˆ 4 studies identified that sleep restriction led to weight gain. When preparing for surgery, aiming for a healthy weight can help reduce the risk of complications and support recovery. The benefits include faster wound healing, safer anaesthesia and a reduced risk of blood clots. At Surgery Hero, we adopt a holistic approach to wellbeing as we recognise how making improvements to one area such as sleep can start a snowball effect and improve other aspects of our health such as weight management. This newly published study in BMJ Evidence-Based Medicine, reveals the profound impact of lifestyle choices on lifespan. Conducted by researchers from Zhejiang University School of Medicine in China and the University of Edinburgh, the study involved over 350,000 participants from the UK Biobank. ๐Ÿ“š The findings highlight that individuals with a high genetic risk of early death face a 21% increased chance of premature mortality, regardless of their lifestyle. Conversely, those leading unhealthy lifestyles have a staggering 78% higher risk of early death, irrespective of their genetic makeup. ๐ŸงฌHowever, the study offers hope, showing that lifestyle modifications can significantly mitigate the genetic risks. Adopting a healthy lifestyle, including not smoking, regular physical activity, sufficient sleep, and a balanced diet, could extend life expectancy by approximately five years, offsetting genetic predispositions by up to 62%! ๐Ÿšญ ๐ŸŽ ๐Ÿ’คThis research underscores the importance of public health policies promoting healthy lifestyles. ๐Ÿ‘Š In light of this research emphasising the pivotal role of lifestyle in offsetting genetic risks and promoting long-term health, companies like Surgery Hero stand at the forefront of supporting individuals in their journey towards optimal well-being. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโš•๏ธ We offer all of our members comprehensive support, not only in preparing individuals for their operations but also in encouraging lasting lifestyle changes conducive to long-term health.
