Authorities: Driver identified after speeding away from Hilton Head traffic stop, crashing into tree
An Ohio man is facing numerous charges after allegedly speeding off away deputies on Hilton Head Island before crashing into a tree.
An Ohio man is facing numerous charges after allegedly speeding off away deputies on Hilton Head Island before crashing into a tree.According to authorities, a car failed to stop at a stop sign near Shelter Cove shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday and was pulled over. After the deputy reportedly smelled marijuana and asked the driver to step out of the car, the driver drove off.The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office called off the chase because the area is so heavily populated, but the driver went off the road and struck a tree.The driver, who has been identified as Antonio Cordell Crenshaw, 22, was taken into custody after a short foot chase that ended behind Belk.Crenshaw, of Garfield Heights, Ohio, was taken to the hospital, treated and then booked into the Beaufort County Detention Center. A passenger who was injured was also taken to the hospital.According to the detention center, Crenshaw faces charges from the BCSO of failure to stop for a blue light; great bodily harm results, fleeing to evade arrest or detention, marijuana possession, possession of other controlled substance, possession of cocaine; possession of 15 dosage units of MDMA or Ecstasy, motor vehicles prohibited on pathway and unattended vehicle-engine running.He also faces charges from the South Carolina Highway Patrol of driving under suspension, reckless driving and hit and run.
